Casina
Lou (Sheets) Cobb
Jul 21, 1952 - Oct 10, 2025
OBB, Casina If you woke up with a sense the world was a
little less sparkly and kind today, you weren't imagining things. Our
beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend
Casina Lou Sheets-Cobb of Carrollton, Texas was rewarded for a
beautiful life lived and taken home on October 10, 2025 at 73 years
young. She was surrounded by love and family, just as she always
ensured we all were any chance she got. She was born July 21, 1952 in
Chatfield, Texas to Charles Afton "Bid" Sheets and Billie Lou (Gorman)
Sheets. As the youngest of the family, her two older brothers, Jerry
and Anthony, were her most ardent first protectors (when they weren't
razzing her endlessly), second only to her doting Daddy. After being
deemed the "most chatty" of the three by her oldest brother Jerry, her
nickname "Mouf" was born...and you best believe it stuck. Not to be
outdone however, the reciprocal "Ugly" she then tagged him with has
proven to have just as much staying power! The family moved to Waco,
Texas when she was just a couple of months old, later relocating to
Roane, Texas before ultimately settling in Corsicana, Texas where she
went through her school years, graduating from Corsicana High School in
1970. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Carrollton, Texas where
she lived the remainder of her life. After working several jobs early
on, she found her long-term work family in 1991 at H&D Distributors
where she was a valued and committed employee, co-worker and friend to
many until retiring in 2020. Casina was blessed with three boys of her
own: Shawn, Terry and Paul. Her boys (and the inevitable shenanigans)
were her very breath and she loved them endlessly until the last one
she took. They later gave her the precious gift of her three
grandbabies: Madelyn, Ava and Aiden. Her greatest joy was being called
"Mom" and "Grandma" and it showed in how masterfully she fulfilled both
roles. Though he took his sweet time showing up to the party, she
married the love of her life (and partner in crime), Larry Cobb on July
17, 1999 - her devoted husband of over 26 years. Being his "favorite
girl", in Larry she found the friend and love she very much deserved.
Together, they navigated all the good, bad, beautiful and ugly that
life dished out with grace, love and laughter. In times of upheaval, he
helped her find peace, just as she did for him. Through her marriage to
Larry, she was also blessed with two "bonus" sons, Jason and Chris, who
later gave her "bonus" grandchildren, Nathan, Charlie and Charlotte.
Casina's sweet, kind (and deliciously mischievous) personality made her
a treasure to all who knew and loved her. Oh, that adorable giggle...
There wasn't a Kohl's sale she missed by choice, a sweet treat she
wouldn't try "just a little taste" of, or a passerby she wouldn't flash
that warm smile to - nor was there a family gathering for which her
famous broccoli cheese casserole wasn't the perfect finishing touch.
She loved deeply and was a fierce protector of family and those she
held dear. It goes without saying the lessons learned from and the
examples set by her will, along with her children and grandchildren, be
her lasting legacy. We will all strive to do her proud and carry
forward the compassion, kindness, quiet strength and - most of all -
the love of family she instilled in all of us. Casina is survived by
her husband Larry Cobb of Carrollton, Texas; her sons, Shawn Shelton of
Dallas, Texas and Terry (Stephanie) Shelton of Tyler, Texas; her bonus
sons, Jason (Julie) Cobb and Chris (Sarah Murrell) Cobb, both of
Gainesville, Texas; her grandchildren, Madelyn Shelton, Ava (Grayson)
Shelton-Carter and Aiden Shelton, all of Tyler, Texas; her bonus
grandchildren, Nathan Cobb, Charlie Cobb and Charlotte Cobb, all of
Gainesville, Texas; her brothers Jerry Sheets of Salt Lake City, Utah
and Anthony Sheets of Corsicana, Texas; numerous cousins, nieces,
nephews and friends - all of whom will miss her beyond words. She is
preceded in death by her parents, her son Paul Sparks Orsborn,
sisters-in-law Darelle (Jerry) Sheets and Kay (Anthony) Sheets, as well
as many other family members who were, without a doubt, ready to
welcome her with open arms. Services will be held Friday, October 17,
2025 at 2pm at Rhoton Funeral Home, located at 1511 S Interstate 35E,
Carrollton, Texas 75006, her son Pastor Terry Shelton officiating.
There will be no graveside service to follow. Our hearts are broken but
we take comfort in knowing yours is finally healed. We miss you already
and love you more than you'll ever know. Fly high sweet lady and rest
in the peace you deserve so very, very much.

Lane
Shifflett, 14, passed away in a freak accident involving a piece of
football training equipment at the Frost ISD playing field Sunday.
(Family
An area family who suffered an unimaginable tragedy this week is
turning their devastation into something positive.
Lane Shifflett, 14, was killed in a freak accident Sunday evening.
Shifflett and a friend were playing around on the Frost ISD football
field when a piece of equipment they were moving fell and crushed him
in the back of the head.
Family said doctors told them he was killed instantly.
"He didn't hurt, and he didn't know what even hit him," said Donna
Shifflett, Lane's grandmother.
Sources say the metal piece of equipment is used to train linemen to
stay low.
"No words can explain how it was, you would have never thought that it
would have happened the way it happened, ever," she said.
A popular football and basketball player, Shifflett's death has left
the small town of about 700 people shocked and heartbroken, most of all
his family, who says Lane was the center of their world.
"He was everyone's favorite," said his aunt. "He's going to be missed
more than anything in the world."
His grandmother, who he called "nanni," says she can't fathom life
without him.
"I don't even think about the future, right now I'm putting one foot in
front of the other," said Donna Shifflett. "I can't even think about
tomorrow...just day by day."
The Navarro County Sheriff's Office was called to the football stadium
to investigate the death and has closed the case.
"The accidental death of this young man was a terrible and tragic
event," said Sheriff Elmer Tanner in a statement sent to KWTX.
"Incidents like this not only affect the victim and his family but our
community as a whole. Hearing about the loss of this young man has
saddened us all. I ask that you please keep his family, friends, school
and community in your thoughts and prayers."
"I would also ask that you please keep our first-responders and law
enforcement personnel who responded to the scene and handled the
incident in your prayers as well," he said.
With Frost being such a tight-knit community, several of the responding
firemen were close family friends of the Shiffletts.
Frost ISD Superintendent Mickie Jackson released this statement in
honor of the student's memory:
"Lane was loved by everyone in our school. He had so many friends in
all different grades because he was so likable, funny, and
unpredictable. He was a talented athlete for the Polar Bears, and when
he wasn't playing, he'd be at the games anyway to watch his friends
play. Lane could probably be best describe as just a good,
old-fashioned country boy who would be hunting, fishing, and driving
his ATV whenever he had a chance. It was how he liked to spend his time
with his friends and with his family. Our school and our whole
community have just been overwhelmed by this loss."
"We are doing what we can to prepare for the students to return and
help them cope with this tragedy. We plan to have counselors available
and the staff will be vigilant in assessing when students may need
support. This is just going to be a really difficult start to the
year," she said.
Classes begin for Frost ISD Monday.
Shifflett's funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the
Frost ISD Auditorium.
The family is encouraging people to drive "Gators" and "ATVs" to the
funeral in Lane's honor.
Following the service, they will drive to the family's ranch where
Shifflett will be buried under a grove of trees next to his favorite
dog "Big Mama".
The visitation was 6-8 p.m. Friday at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in
Corsicana.
The family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a
scholarship fund in Shifflett's honor.
The family is going to hold an annual skeet shoot tournament to raise
money for scholarships for Frost students who exemplify Lane's spirit
to continue his legacy of love.
Donations can be made to Community National Bank & Trust of Texas
in Frost where an account is set up in Shifflett's name.

AKERS - Little Ben Akers, infant son of J. H. and Laura Akers, was born
May 16, 1902, and died September 12, 1902, aged 3 months and 26 days.
Another flower budded on earth to bloom in heaven. Sweet little Ben's
stay on earth was shortl, but long enough to entwine the affections of
the family around it. Baby's face is greatly missed by all. The home is
saddened, but heaven is dearer and sweeter because another angel is at
the beautiful gate waiting and watdching for father, mother and
brothers and sister to join him in glory. Look up, loved ones,
and trust in Him who said, "Suffer little children to come unto me, and
forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven."
Good-bye, little darling; it is impossible for you to return to us, but
a short time only before we can come to you. God help us allto so
live that we can meet little Ben agiain.

May 5, 1809 - Dec 12, 1898
Rev.John L.Brown fell asleep in Jesus December 12,1898 at the home of
his son-in-law and daughter,Jackson and Eliza T.Brown,near
Richland,Navarro County,Texas, where he has been living for the last six
years. He was born in Warren County,Tenn.,May 5,1809.He professed
religion and joined the M.E.Church,South,at seventeen years of age.At
the age of twenty-eight he was licensed to preach, under the presiding
eldership of Rev.John Sherrell;was ordained deacon October 17,1852,by
Bishop James Osgood Andrew,at McMinnville,Tenn. He preached for about
forty-seven years, and was faithful to all the doctrines and usages of
Methodism.Though local,he would often relieve the preachers in charge
and go their rounds, while they went home or were sick.In revivals he
went far and near.He never fled before the enemy. His preaching was
plain and practical.Anything that he could not adjust to the word of
God was with him but chaff. He was a great lover of the CHRISTIAN
ADVOCATE.He was married to Sarah Taylor. To them were born thirteen
children. All but four have preceded him.His wife preceded him by ten
years to the good world. His firstborn still survives him, though
sixty-odd years old.He has thirty-six great-grandchildren,the most of
whom live in Texas, where he died. His daughter Eliza and her husband
endeavored to make his life pleasant and happy. He offtimes expressed
his delight with Texas and the tender care for him the last six years
of his life.Often would he say that there was but one thing that
troubled him, that was he would rather br buried by his wife at Beech
Grove in Alabama. That made but little difference,as he would be with
her in heaven. He loved the Texas preachers:Brothers
M.B.McKinney,F.M.Winburn,G.J.Irving and others. Our present preacher he
never saw,but he held an impressive service at the grave. On the night
of his departure, about one o'clock,he held out his hand, and
said:"Good-by;don't grieve after me.I am going to a better home over
yonder."A few minutes before the last he rose up in bed and told his
daughter to fix him a soft pillow to die on.She adjusted the pillow,he
lay down on the edge of it,and in a moment said,"Now,Lord, take me
easy."and his life was gone.Not a struggle not a frown;all was
over."Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like
his."We,his children, who have cared for him in his last years, want to
say to his many friends and relatives, especially in Tennessee, that if
we ever meet him again we will have to live in this life above
reproach.God help us all so to do!

Ralph
Wayne Grounds
Sep 25, 1936 - Feb 17, 2021
Ralph Grounds, 84, of Hillsboro, Texas passed away February 17, 2021 in
Waco, Texas. He was born September 25, 1936 in Blooming Grove, Texas to
James Ralph and Ima Elsie (Shumate) Grounds, the oldest of 6 children.
He attended school in Hillsboro and earned a GED after joining the
United States Air Force in 1958. At his first assignment at Keesler AFB
in Biloxi, MS, he met the love of his life, Bobbie Gainer. They were
married June 24, 1961. He worked as a Special Vehicle Equipment
Supervisor and Mechanic, being deployed to many locations, such as
Thailand, North Africa and the very end of the Aluetian Chain in Alaska.
After 20 years, he retired from military service and moved back to
Hillsboro, along with his daughters and son and started a job with
Spartan Copper. In 1982 he established Grounds Locksmith. He always
enjoyed going to "The Barn" at Clara and DL Williams' to listen to
music with his friends. He also frequented the local Chinese Buffett
where he would sit at his special table and eat his standard fare of
fish, egg drop soup and a large pot of green tea and leave with 6
fortune cookies to share with friends. He had a passion for collecting
Texas quarters and stamping "Where's George" on all of his paper money
to track where it went.
As a locksmith his motto was "from can to can't" and he took that
seriously, all the way to the end. He lived life on his terms and
didn't waiver in his beliefs nor his faith in God. He was a man of few
words but didn't really need to use them. If you asked him how he was,
he was always "better." He is probably experiencing the best "better"
he has ever been right now.
Survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Gainer Grounds, daughters,
Karen, Sheryl, son, Christopher, grand children, great-grand children
and brothers, Melvin Grounds and Edwin Grounds, sisters, Elsie Mullins,
Lynda Gray and Shirley Ball and numerous nieces and nephews and
extended family members and friends.
A military burial will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery,
February 27, 2021 in Dallas, Texas.

Cleo Hocutt
Nov 29, 1923 - Aug 20, 1950
LOVE OF FAMILY
Victim Sought Farm
Job
But for his desire
to care better for his family, 25-yer-old Clois Hocutt might be alive.
Hocutt learned of a
possible dairy farm job near Arlington two weeks ago, but when he
reported he found there was not yet an opening. Anxious for his family,
he came immediately to Fort Worth, found a job as a loader at Marco
Grain Company, rented a two-room house, and moved the family here from
Godley.
Then Sunday, he was
fatally injured while working on a screw-type conveyor. He had gone
back into a tunnel under stored grain when he was caught in machinery.
Three hours later he died in a hospital.
Of his children,
5-year-old Elton, standing wiht Barbara, 4, seemed to understand better
than his younger brother and sisters. "Daddy's gone to be with God." he
said.
Mrs. Hocutt cradled
her 2-month-old daughter, Glenda, in her arms as she told of their
hopes of establishing a home here. Jerry, 3, dressed in a new yuellow
playsuit, stood close to his mother.
"Clois loved his
children above everything." she said. "He was a hard worker - a
God-fearing man."
Mrs. Hocutt said she
and the children would remain here temporarily with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. C. W. Abbott, Rt. 1, Hamilton, Rd.

New Workman Hurt Fatally In Grain Tube
A 26-year-old grain loader, Cleo Hocutt, of Rt. 1, Box 8613, Haltom
Rd., was injured fatally at noon Sunday when he became entangled in a
conveyor machine at Marco Grain Company, 3709 E. 1st.
Hocutt was working about 50 feet back in a tunnel under the stored
grain, apparently unclogging a 12-inch screw-type conveyor, when his
foot became caught in the machinery, tearing his right leg off below
the knee and crushing his pelvis. He died in a hospital at 3:15 p.m.
Another workman near him ran to his aid while Paul Dafner, a
millwright, cut off the power machinery. Hocutt was conscious when a
Lucas ambulance crew removed him from the mill and raced to the
hospital.
Hocutt had worked at the grain company for little more than a week,
Plant Superintendent John Henry said. He moved his wife and four
children here from Waxahachie during the week.
Notes:
---
Donations totaling $55 had been received late Friday by the family of
Clois Hocutt, young father of four small children, who was killed
Sunday in a mill accident here.
Hocutt's wife and children were left without insurance and with less
than $5, their postor, Rev. T. F. Shultz, of the Victory Assembly of
God Church, said.
The family plans to remain in Fort Worth, and is staying temporarily
with Mrs. Hocutt's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Abbott, on Rt. 1,
Haltom Rd.
Donations may be sent in care of Rev. Mr. Schultz, 3269
Grover, for delivery to the family.

"A man of many hats"
Born March 17, 1914.
He was 97 years old!
Roy wore many hats
during his long life. He had many titles: Christian, Mr. B, brother,
entrepreneur, father, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, sailor,
patriot, cattleman, farmer, boss, city commissioner, grocerman, pore
ole Roy, land developer, water utility operator, Rotarian, chief cook
and bottle washer, investor, salesman, fisherman, realtor, trader, care
giver, mentor, friend, and a great story teller. Roy had many titles
during his life time, all of which he enjoyed. He did love to tell
stories! You can read one of his Navy stories by Googling his name and
finding "The Very Wet Sailor".
Roy grew up on a
black land cotton farm near Frost, Texas, a small town south of the
Dallas / Ft. Worth metroplex. His parents, Phillip and Geneva Brinson
had eight children. Roy is the last of the brothers and sisters to make
their heavenly journey.
Roy grew up during
the Great Depression and he never forgot it. He was frugal and loved a
bargain. Oh how he loved to grocery shop!
He started his
business career by working in a grocery store in Wellington, Tx. While
in Wellington he met and married Evelyn Joy Burt. His business career
was interrupted by World War II. He became a sailor and served aboard
the USS Salt Lake City, a heavy cruiser. He wanted to be a store keeper
on board, but because of his aptitude with math, he served as Fire
Controlman. Roy never owned a gun during his lifetime but for those
Navy years he was one of the trigger fingers for those massive guns on
board his ship. His time was spent in the Pacific where he was in most
of the great sea battles, and his stories began. He could tell you
story after story with amazing recall of far away names. He missed his
family but he, along with the Greatest Generations group, was a patriot
and loved his country. He never really got rid of the "salt" in his
blood.
Upon his return to
the US, he opened his first grocery store in Amarillo and was very
successful. The business prospered and grew, in 1953 he moved his
family to Borger, Tx and purchased the Yoes Brothers grocery. During
the late 1950's he served as a city commissioner for the City of Borger.
In 1961 he along
with his partner/son Burt, started a land development around the City
of Fritch. It involved several thousand acres and is now home to over
4,500 people. He operated Hi Texas Water Company, a water utility, to
service the developed areas. Some of the names of the developments are
Arroyo Verde, Ponderosa, Sage Mesa, Antelope Mesa and many more.
Roy was married to
Evelyn Joy Burt for 53 years. Joy preceded him in death in 1989. In
1990, Roy married Pauline Ellis of Amarillo. They were married for 21
years. Pauline survives him.
Roy is survived by
two children, Burt Brinson of Houston and Beverly Brinson Fry and her
husband David Fry of Amarillo , six grandchildren Brooks Brinson of
Washington D.C. Bo Brinson of Houston, Tx, Branch Brinson of Katy,
Texas, Bonner Brinson of Fulshear, Texas. Aaron Fry of Laguna, NM, and
Raegan Fry King of Waco, Tx . Roy had eight great grandchildren.

Ferrell Smithey was
born Feb. 28, 1933, five miles south of Frost in a place called Jones
Ranch. A servant of the Lord, he was saved and baptized in Mill Creek
at an early age.
At 17, he went to
work in the Frost Cotton
Gin.
In 1951, he began working at Chance Vault Aircraft in Grand Prairie,
where he remained until May of 1953 before leaving for service in Korea

in April of 1955, Ferrell began a 25-year career in public service with
the Dallas Fire Department, alongside brave men with whom he forged
lifelong friendships.
In 1959, he married
Brenda Smithey in Dallas. They relocated closer to Frost, allowing
Ferrell to raise cattle, cotton, wheat, and maize with his brother,
Don, for nearly 30 years on the Smithey Brothers’ Farm and Ranch.
Ferrell’s remarkable
work ethic is one of his most definitive attributes. He knew the value
of hard work and of a dollar.
Humble, patient,
sharp-witted, and dedicated, it is certain that everyone who knew him
can readily recall a particular moment they shared with Ferrell and
agree that these characteristics defined him.
Although he himself
described his formative schooling as measured by the circumstances of

William Orville "Lefty"
Frizzell
March 31, 1928 - Jul 19, 1975
Lefty
Frizzell Dies of Stroke
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
(UPI) - Country music star Lefty Frizzell, whose nasal
voice and slurring lyrics once gave him four simultaeous hits, died
Saturday night at Nashville Memorial Hospital after suffering a massive
stroke earlier in the day. He was 47.
A spokesman for Cole
& Garrett Funeral Home in suburban
Goodlettsville said services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home.
Frizzell, born
William Orville Frizzell in Texas, broke into the big time of country
music in 1950 at the at tge age if 22.
Both sides of one of
his records became number one in that year. -
"I Love You in a Thousand Ways," and If You've Got the Time."
In 1952 he had
four songs in the top 10 at the same time. They
were "Always Late," "Mom and Dad Waltz," "I Love You in a Thousand
Ways" and "Travelin' Blues."
No country artist
has ever equalled that feat.
Longtime friend
"Buffalo Bill" Carson said Frizzell's illness came on suddenly."
A hospita spokesman
said Frizzell suffered a massive stroke Saturday morning.
Although much
country music has changed since the early 1950s, Frizzell stuck to his
basic "hard core" country style.
He once told an
interviewer.
"When I sing a song,
I want to make it sound like the last thing I ever say in my life."
Carson described
Frizzell as a "songwriter, singer, musician, a total man."
Frizzell, born in
Corsicana, Texas on March 31, 1928, was the son of an
oil driller and as a youth he traveled the oil fields of Texas and
Oklahoma.
He earned the nickname "Lefty" from his
southpaw boxing knockouts as a teenager in Texas.
During the early
1950's Frizzell and the legendary Hank Williams were the two hottest
acts in country music.
Frizzell had not
been as active in the past few years and recently joined ABC records
after 23 years with Columbia Records.
Frizzell leaves his
widow Alice, three sons and a daughter.
Frizzell is the
second well known country artist to die in recent
weeks. George Morgan died about a week after undergoing open heart
surgery. Bluegrass great Lester Flatt is recuperating at a
Nashville
hospital follwing hear t surgery.

William
Earl "Bill" Brown
Jun 11, 1955 - Dec 30, 2025
William Earl "Bill" Brown, born June 11, 1955, to William Travis Brown
and Oneda Olivia Petty Brown in Corsicana, Texas, peacefully went home
to be with the Lord on December 30, 2025; surrounded by his loved ones.
He has won his earthly battle.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept
the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness…" –
2 Timothy 4:7-8
Bill was the youngest of five children and the only son. Raised by his
mother and four older sisters, he grew up full of charm, laughter, and
a heart eager to care. His childhood shaped a man of resilience, love,
and deep compassion.
At 22, Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force for three
years, after which he built a life full of hard work and adventure.
From working in the oil fields to truck driving, electrical work,
plumbing, and more. He was a true *"jack of all trades, master of
none"—* He did however master what mattered most: his relationship with
God, providing for his family, and living fully.
Faith was at the center of Bill's life. He often said, "Blessed and
highly favored am I," and shared the Gospel freely. He delighted in
making memories with his family, singing loudly, riding motorcycles,
watching football, riding his zero turn mower, and traveling whenever
he could.
Bill’s heart was fullest when he was with his family. He cherished his
beloved Kathy "Ms. Pretty" Brown, his children - Jason, his namesake
and firstborn; Jackie Joe, his ice cream buddy; Kathrine, his heart and
"Kato"; and his youngest Lucas was his ace in the hole.
He is survived by the love of his life, Kathy Brown; his children and
