loving her family deeply. Her gift for caring-and her steady,
comforting presence-brought joy to all who knew her.
She is survived by her sister, Josie Siegrist, and her children: Kent
Holiday and his wife, Dianne; Kurt Holiday and his wife, Janna Kay; and
Susan Woods and her husband, Patrick. She was a proud grandmother to
Michael Holiday, Jonathan Holiday, Lauren Holiday, Ruth Anne Holiday,
Joshuwa Holiday, and Kaitlin Hansen, and a delighted great grandmother
to Landon Holiday, Alyssa Holiday, Cambrianna Holiday, Hayden Holiday,
Hunter Holiday, Lily Holiday, Dakota Holiday, Sawyer West, Jack West,
William Baker, Grace Baker, and Chloe Hague.
Marlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years,
Patrick, and her parents, Maynard and Doris.
A naturally gifted cook and baker, Marlene found joy in the kitchen. If
a recipe existed in a cookbook, she wanted to try it-and she often
cooked for large gatherings, and especially for the Christmas holidays
with her children and grandchildren -memories that will be treasured
forever.
She also loved to read, often losing herself in a novel or her favorite
magazines. Late at night, she could be found watching classic movies,
sometimes alone and sometimes with friends who loved sharing those
moments with her.
Travel was another passion that shaped her life. After high school, she
adventured to Europe with several close friends, sparking a lifelong
appreciation for beautiful architecture and the wonders of God's world.
And for anyone who knew her, conversation came naturally-Marlene was
blessed with the "gift of gab" and could spend hours happily talking
with friends in her home or on the phone.
Above all else, Marlene loved her husband and family with her whole
heart. She was a faithful and selfless mother who always did whatever
needed to be done-joyfully, generously, and with excellence. Her legacy
of love, service, and family devotion will be carried forward with
gratitude by those she leaves behind.
Visitation will be held Saturday, March 7th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. A
funeral service to celebrate Marlene's life will be Saturday, March 7th
at 1:00 at Lakeside Methodist Church in Streetman, Texas. |

Gary Lynn
Estes
Feb 14, 1945 - Feb 22, 2026
Gary
Lynn Estes gained his wings on Sunday, February 22, 2026, surrounded by
his family at the age of 81! He was born on February 14th, 1945, in
Tampa, Florida, and moved to Mildred, Texas, at the age of 7. He would
call Mildred home for the remainder of his life with his grandparents,
Altie and Launa Estes.
Gary was preceded in death by his brother
Doug Gohr. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Estes; daughter Kari and
husband Ronnie Burks; daughter Christina Estes and fiancé Anthony
Barbosa; his grandchildren Blythe Greenup (Donald), Taylor Greenup
(Aubyn), Carley Bouska (Colton), Bailey Burks, and Brennen Burks; his
great-grandchildren Luke, Piper, Sadie, Lincoln, Cannen, Declan, and
Levi.
Gary was loved and respected by many. He lived a life that
most of us could only read about in adventure books. He traveled the
world while working for Otis Engineering, which became Halliburton. He
worked in the UAE, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, New Iberia, Scotland, the North
Sea, Congo, Nigeria, Egypt, Greece, Qatar, Turkey, Italy, and the
Persian Gulf. Some of these were during the Gulf War. He was a master
mechanic and invented different things that Halliburton patented.
In
his spare time, you could find him fishing or gardening. He could grow
anything and everything and would share his knowledge with anyone.
Stating, "Everyone should be able to feed themselves."
He was
known by many names-Gary, Dad, Papi, and Grandpa. No matter what you
know him by, to know him was to know he was a country gentleman in
every possible way. He never met a problem he couldn't solve or fix,
earning him the name MacGyver. He was always willing to lend a helping
hand to those he saw who were working hard and just needed a little
extra help along the way. He had a pair of "heehaws" for every occasion
and season. He was one of the strongest-willed men to walk this earth,
and he will be missed greatly.
With his famous saying, "It's been real, it's been fun, but it ain't
been real fun." |

Joe
went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 11, 2023, at age 93. A
celebration of his life will be held for family and friends later this
year.
Joe and his twin brother were born on a farm in Corsicana,
Texas. At age 10, the family moved to Fort Worth where Joe graduated
from Carter-Riverside High School where he played football and
participated in the band. He graduated from the University of Texas at
Austin with a BBA having joined Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and
participated on the gymnastics team. Joe served in the Air Force during
the Korean War, arriving in Korea a week before the war ended.
After
returning to Fort Worth, he met and fell in love with Annella, his wife

mountains they loved.
Joe and Annella contributed
philanthropically to many causes. They were founding financiers of

Sarah Kathryn (Braswell)
Barron
Nov 6, 1941 - Mar 10, 2026
Dr.
Sarah Kathryn (Braswell) Barron was born on November 6, 1941, in
McKinney, Texas to Albert Dalton Braswell and Gloria Belle Staton. When
Dr. Barron was just 18 months old, her father was killed in a military
training accident in Florida during WWII. She was raised on a farm near
Blue Ridge by her maternal grandparents Duffy Staton and Dr. Barron
Belle Wyatt.
She started school at the age of 5 in the one-room
schoolhouse at Snow Hill, Texas and continued there for several years
before transferring to Farmersville Elementary School. She used to milk
cows in the morning with sore hands from playing softball before going
to school. She excelled at school especially in math and science and
graduated from Farmersville High School as valedictorian of the class
of 1959.
She received a small scholarship and enrolled at North
Texas State College as a math major. She also received assistance from
the GI Bill due to her father's death while in the service. It was at
North Texas that she met her future husband, John Calvin Barron, and
they were married on June 3, 1961. John graduated from East Texas State
College that summer and accepted a position as a biologist with the
Texas State Parks and Wildlife.
John's job took them to San
Antonio where Dr. Barron enrolled at Trinity University and graduated
from there with a B.S. in math in 1962. Her daughter, Lucy Ann Barron,
was born there in 1963. Dr. Barron then taught in the public school
system until 1965 when John's job took them to Corpus Christi for three
years and then to Austin. Dr. Barron taught in the public school system
while in Corpus Christi but especially enjoyed teaching at the
all-girls Catholic school.
In Austin, Dr. Barron had various
teaching positions, but she also enjoyed raising chinchillas and guinea
pigs. It was this interest that pointed her toward the field of
genetics. In 1971, she enrolled at the University of Texas in a Ph.D.
program in genetics. Her major professor was Dr. Kenichi Kojima, a
world-renowned scientist. Dr. Kojima was anxious for Dr. Barron to join
his lab since she was also studying the new field of computer science.
Tragically, Dr. Kojima was killed in an
automobile accident less than a year into Dr. Barron's study and she
had to begin her program anew under a new professor.
Dr.
Barron's second major professor was Dr. Dick Richardson who was from
Mexia, Texas. Under his guidance, Dr. Barron began her work with the
Drosophila fruit fly collection at the University. At that time the
collection consisted of a large number of species of fruit flies
collected from specific locations which had been kept going in small
vials for over 40 years.
Her research consisted of measuring the
wing structures of flies in the collection and comparing the
measurements with the original wild-caught specimens. The object of the
study was to determine if the wings of the flies in the wild had
evolved over time while countless generations lived on in the small
vials unchanged.
Another part of the research was to capture
flies from the same locations as the originals were caught and compare
these specimens as well. She did some traveling during this time and
collected flies in various parts of Texas as well as on a harrowing
trip to Mexico. The results of her research were successful in proving
her theory that the flies in the wild had evolved and were no longer
compatible with those in the labs.
During much of the time that
she was studying, Dr. Barron also taught computer science classes in
Fortran and COBOL. Dr. Barron received her Ph.D. in May 1982 just about
the time that her daughter was in her second year there. Dr. Barron
then received a post-graduate position with Dr. Yuichiro Horaizumi. She
taught his genetics labs and worked on various phases of his research
projects.
After her post-doc position ended, Dr. Barron taught a
few courses at the community college and was hired as a research
analyst at the Balcones Research Center which was part of the
University of Texas system. Her work consisted of genetics research on
the Cray supercomputer and assisting faculty and staff to use the
facilities. She also attended many conferences around the country to
demonstrate their product known as Gentools.
Later she was part
of Dr. Matthew Whitten's group working on the human genome project.
When the Balcones Research Center closed, she transferred to the
Microbiology Department at the university and managed their computing
facilities until she retired in August 2000, with over 25 years of
teaching and related experience.
Along with her work, Dr. Barron
was very involved in her church activities. She was a member of the
First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Austin. In August 1989 she
began to serve on the General Assembly which was equivalent to a
national board of directors. It was composed mostly of pastors from
around the nation along with a few lay persons. She served on the
General Assembly for about 13 years meeting quarterly in Memphis,
Tennessee.
In September 2001, she and husband John moved to his
hometown, Corsicana, Texas, in order to enjoy retirement among friends
and family. There Dr. Barron joined the Westminster Presbyterian Church
and took part in many activities of smalltown life. In 2019, the
Farmersville Students Association inducted her into the Farmersville
Students Association Hall of Fame and presented her with an award.
She
was preceded in death by her parents and two half-sisters. She is
survived by her loving husband, John Barron, of 65 years, daughter Lucy
and husband Lawrence Marcus of Vienna, Virginia, grandson Calvin Marcus
Barron of Vienna, Virginia, and grandson Elliott Marcus Barron, of
Tallahassee, Florida as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jeannie (Ellington) McCarty
Feb 26, 1957 - Feb 27,
2026
Jeannie Ellington
McCarty was born February 26, 1957 to Ed and Mariella Ellington and
proud brothers Pat and Pete Ellington. She died peacefully surrounded
by loving family February 27, 2026 one day after her 69th birthday.
Jeannie attended Rice School from first grade through junior high. She
attended high school at Blooming Grove High School where she was chosen
as FFA Sweetheart and was Valedictorian of her class>
After high school Jeannie married Steve McCarty to whom she remained
married for 39 years. They immediately moved to Germany as Steve was in
the Army and stationed there. They spent two years in Germany where
Jeannie did a lot of growing up and learned independence as they lived
off post, she did not speak German, and Steve was absent most of their
time in Germany on field training exercises.
Jeannie established a legacy of service at an early age. As a child she
made runs with the Chatfield Volunteer Fire Department. As an adult she
served as President of that organization following in the footsteps of
her father who was the department's first President and her brother who
served as president as well as serving for 30 years as Chief. In
addition, Jeannie served with the Rice Volunteer Fire Department while
working at the First State Bank at Rice where she was honored as
Firefighter of the Year. She was also active in the Navarro County
Volunteer Firefighter Association where she served as president.
She was certified as a CPR instructor through the Red Cross and taught
classes at many volunteer fire departments and other organizations.
Jeannie also often participated in Fire Prevention Week programs at
schools and frequently wore the "Sparky the Fire Dog" costume while
presenting those programs and on other occasions such as local parades.
In addition, she got her fire instructor's certification and taught at
the county fire school.
Jeannie was active in the Chatfield Methodist Church, where as a child
she had perfect attendance in Sunday School for over ten years. She
later served as church Secretary/Treasurer as well as other posts.
Other community activities included serving as president of the
Chatfield Cemetery Association and serving on the Board of Directors of
the Chatfield Community Center.
She worked for the American Red Cross for over seventeen years, most of
which was spent as a Disaster Program Manager. As a result, along the
way, she made many friends, including firefighters – both volunteer and
professional, law enforcement personnel, emergency management
personnel, Red Cross personnel and volunteers, and touched the lives of
many other people in the process, Jeannie was very proud of her Red
Cross Family and felt great pride in being able to help people when
they needed it the most.
The family would like to give special thanks to our cousin Marianne
Ellington Kreason who remained by Jeannie's side day and night during
her last days. In addition, we would like to thank Gail Christie, Nancy
Sykes, Charlotte Loper and Hollie Ellington for their invaluable help
with the arrangements for Jeannie's services.
We would also like to thank the LVAD teams at Baylor Dallas and Baylor
Scott and White Temple for their help and encouragement. In addition,
we would like to thank the staff at Divida Dialysis Center for their
help and patience. Lastly, we would like to thank the wonderful staff
in the STC Wing at Baylor Scott and White Temple for their help and
compassion. God Bless You All!

Ann G. (Prater) Lewis
Jul 21, 1947 - Mar 23, 2026
Corsicana
- Ann was born to Coymae and Chester Prater, alongside her big brother
Jamie, on July 21, 1947, at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Texas. In Ann's
own words: "I was named by my mom who loved me and made lots of things
possible, but I was adored by my daddy."
Growing up in Dawson,
Texas, Ann graduated from Dawson public schools in 1965. Her early
years were filled with school spirit; she played basketball, performed
in school musicals, and served as a majorette. Remarkably, Ann became
the Dawson Bulldog's mascot at the age of 2, a tradition that continued
when their beloved family bulldog, Beethoven, eventually took over that
role. Ann later matriculated at Navarro College and Sam Houston State
University, earning her Bachelor's degree in Education in 1968.
Teaching
was not just a career for Ann; it was a divine calling. She began her
journey in the fall of 1968 as a third-grade teacher at Navasota
Elementary. Over a distinguished career spanning decades, Ann's
excellence was recognized with numerous honors, including:
- 1998 Quality Teacher of the Year
- 1998 Golden Apple Award
- 2002 Outstanding Educator
- 2002 Mark C. Culwell Award (Corsicana ISD's highest elementary teaching honor)
- 2005 CEF Distinguished Teacher of the Year
She
retired from Corsicana ISD after 45 years of teaching but could never
truly leave the classroom. She continued to serve as a substitute
teacher in Corsicana and Blooming Grove until 2024, even striving to
return to her students during her later illnesses. Ann adored her
students beyond measure and found her closest, most admired friends
among her fellow educators. She was also a dedicated member of the
Texas State Teachers Association, where she worked to shape the
curriculum and policies for future generations.
Ann was a pillar
of the Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County in Corsicana, led by
her dear friend, Pastor Charky Marquis. She loved the Lord with all her
heart and felt a deep connection to the worship services, often
remarking that the songs felt "sung just for her." The church community
provided her with immense strength and fellowship through both joyful
and difficult times.
A voracious reader and lover of literature,
Ann possessed a passion she proudly passed on to her granddaughter,
Aubrey. She could easily finish a book a week, finding escape and peace
within the written word.
Above all her accolades, Ann most
wanted to be known for her unwavering faith, the love for her children
and her heart for others. Her infectious smile would light up a room.
She lived to be a light for her students and a witness to God's love,
hoping that every person she met felt seen, valued, and encouraged.
Ann was survived by many who loved and adored her.
Services will be held on March 28th at 11 am Lone Star Cowboy Church of Corsicana, Texas.
In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name, Ann G. Prater
Lewis, to Agape Christian Academy. To further the love of education for
future generations.
