Patricia Marie (Clark)
Owen
Sep 30, 1938 - Dec 7, 2023
Patricia Marie Clark Owen left this earthly home and went to
be with her Lord and Saviour on December 7, 2023. She loved
life, and she loved her children, grandchildren, and great
grandchildren with all her heart. Her many friends,
especially those in her church, her graduating Class of
1957 from Corsicana High School, and her piano students were
always a very important part of her life. Pat was the 5th
child born to Lenard Clarence and Hazel Marie Bower Clark on
September 30, 1938, at Dresden, Texas. Shortly before she
celebrated her 4th birthday in 1942, her family moved to
Corsicana to 309 South 23rd Street where she lived until she
married. She attended Sam Houston Elementary School from 1st
through 7th grades. In 1st grade she joined Blue Birds, and
later Camp Fire Girls. She was gifted a week-paid
scholarship to attend Camp Wanica each summer.
When Pat was 7 years old her Mom and Dad bought her a little
white piano that had 8 white keys, and the black keys were
painted on it. She began to pick out songs. That Christmas
she learned to play "Silent Night".
When she was 10 years old, every Saturday morning she would
walk up the street to help clean for two little frail
ladies. She made a whopping 35 cents an hour; however, after
working 2 hours she made 70 cents which would buy a piece of
material for her Mom to make her a dress. A few years later
she made 50 cents an hour and saved it. Her Mom took her
downtown to purchase little, short sets for her 2 nieces and
2 nephews.
Pat has always loved children.
Pat loved all of her teachers at Sam Houston, but Clellia
Mae Callicutt, her 5th grade teacher, was her very favorite!
She entered the math and spelling contests for the 5th, 6th,
and 7th graders. She won first place, beating all the 6th
and 7th graders. This made Mrs. Callicutt very proud of her!
She faithfully visited her until she passed away at
101 years old. At age 14 Pat accepted Jesus Christ as her
personal Saviour and was baptized in her church, Missionary
Baptist Church, where her family had attended. She attended
Junior High School in the 8th and 9th grades. She was a
member of the Stardusters Singing Group. In her 8th grade
year her Dad was able to purchase a piano. She began taking
piano lessons from Mrs. Jimmie Mansfield where she was
awarded the gold lyre pin each year for the student making
the most progress. As soon as she began lessons, her church
elected her assistant pianist. After a month the pianist
eloped, moved out-of-town, and Pat was then elected pianist.
She played for her church for the next 25 years.
She loved to sing and play the piano. She played for many
weddings in the years to come. She never charged for
weddings, nor would she agree to being on the church
payroll. She always said that God gave her a talent, made a
way for her to get a piano and take lessons. Pat had learned
to play the church organ and was elected assistant organist.
She attended Corsicana High School and graduated in the
Class of 1957 with high honors. She completed 5 years of
piano. She became qualified to teach piano.
Pat worked for Navarro Savings & Loan and Navarro Junior
College as Secretary to Gaston T. Gooch, Dean/Registrar. She
attended night school at Navarro where she completed
Business and English courses. She was employed there from
1959 to 1963. On April 22, 1961, Pat married her sweetheart,
James Everett Owen, and to this union was born a daughter,
Diana Marie, on July 14, 1963, and a son, Wayne Edmonds, on
August 1, 1966. Pat taught piano at Mrs. Mansfield's Studio
for a year, and then she taught for 10 years at home. This
helped with living expenses.
During Diana's high school years, Pat was President of the
CHS Band Boosters. While Diana and Wayne were in A'Cappella
Choir, Pat also served as President of the CHS Choir
Boosters. She was affectionately known as "Mama O" and was
their favorite Counselor on band and choir trips. She spent
many summers going on Mission Trips to Brownsville and
Breckenridge, Colorado, with the youth of Northside Baptist
Church where she and James became members in 1976. She was
also invited by Rick Jaggers to chaperone the BSU Navarro
College students on their mission trip to Brownsville and
Matamoras.
Pat taught her children to sing at an early age. She had
such a great love for music her entire life. God gave her
several songs which she composed. Later, Diana and Wayne
recorded 5 of her songs on their album in 1985. They were
such a blessing to their Mom and Dad as they used their
talents for the Lord. Pat played for the Senior Adult Choir
at Northside, Unity Baptist, Emmanuel Baptist, and the Adult
Choir of First Baptist, Blooming Grove, and many residents
of nursing homes.
In 1971, James and Pat purchased Paul Mitchell Hardware
where James had worked for nearly 15 years. She had to stop
teaching piano and work with him at the store. In 1986, Pat
opened Pat Owen Gifts and Bridal Registry. She knew this
would give her another opportunity to again see the kids she
had worked with and loved at CHS, as well as church, when
they registered for their weddings. She loved ministering to
people.
After retirement Pat felt God leading her to gather in
children who could not afford piano lessons, as she could
relate. She had 12 students at one time. She held recitals
for them in the Spring and at Christmas.
The students memorized their pieces and were awarded a
musical trophy for their hard work. It was a blessing for
her to see and hear their progress. They were precious to
her. She taught them for 6 years until the Covid epidemic.
She never charged for teaching.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, James Everett
Owen, to whom she was married almost 50 years; her parents,
Lenard and Hazel Clark; grandson, Jacob Owen; sister Shirley
Clark; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and L. D. Lusk;

Sean John Garnet Mabe
May 1, 1966 - Oct 2, 2025
Sean
John Garnet Mabe, age 59, of Purdon, Texas, passed
away on October 2, 2025. He was born May 1, 1966, in
Findlay, Ohio, to Samuel Mabe and Gloria Bertoline.
Sean was the kind of man whose presence filled a
room not because he asked for attention, but because
he brought a peace and light that people naturally
felt. He was kind, funny, and steady, with a way of
making everyone feel welcome. He had a deep joy
about life never taking it too seriously, always
finding laughter even when things were hard.
Sean was proud of his Squamish heritage and deeply
honored his role as an Elder within the tribe. He
carried that wisdom and respect throughout his
life teaching through quiet strength, humor, and
humility. He understood what it meant to walk with
dignity and to honor both people and the earth.
A man of strong hands and a stronger faith, Sean
worked hard all his life and gave his best in
everything he did. But his greatest work was loving
others. He always put people first, making sure
those around him were cared for, comfortable, and
happy. He had a gift for knowing when someone needed
a lift, and he gave freely of his time and spirit.
Through his love, his faith, and his words, Sean
touched lives - and he led many souls to the Lord.
Sean was an old soul with a rock-and-roll heart.
Music was his rhythm and his refuge. He loved those
long, easy moments of conversation and
laughter where stories, songs, and a little quiet
reflection made the world slow down. Those who knew
him best will smile at that memory, knowing exactly
the kind of peace he loved to share.
Sean loved God deeply. His faith was personal,
unshakable, and filled with grace. He often reminded
those around him to hold on to their faith, to love
without judgment, and to never be afraid to lean on
the Lord. His greatest wish was for his family and
friends to find peace in that same love and to
accept Jesus as their Savior.
He believed that love was the truest legacy a person
could leave behind - and his own life proved it. His
family was his pride, his joy, and his purpose.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday,
October 10, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton
Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held
Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at
Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, with burial following
at Mitchell-Mabe Private Family Cemetery.
Sean is survived by his children: John Mabe and
fiancée Amanda, and Kristen Mabe and husband Brent
Mitchell, and their mother and his lifelong best
friend Cindy Mabe; his bonus children Chelsi Coker
and husband Bobby, and Christopher Brightman and
wife Rachel; siblings Tony Mabe, Troy Mabe, Todd
Hammer, Shelly Hammer, Samantha Johnson, and Sammy
Mabe; his bonus mom Sandy Mabe-Garnier. He is also
survived by his grandchildren Katelyn, Jason,
Willow, Sean, Kurtice, Mayc, Lexi, Chloe, Walker,
Kai, Matthias, Stella, Devlin, and Dillon, and his
great-granddaughter Salem. He was preceded in death
by his parents and his brother, Greg Hammer.
Sean also leaves behind a large circle of nieces,
nephews, cousins, and countless other family members
and friends who loved him dearly and will carry his
memory forward.
Sean's legacy of love, laughter, faith, and music
will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He
will be remembered for his light, his strength, and
the countless lives he helped guide closer to God.
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do
not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be
afraid." -- John 14:27 |

Notes:
Gowan Murphy
Aug 23, 1944 - Sep 20, 2025
The
world lost a truly unique man when Gowan Murphy, 81,
peacefully passed away on September 20, 2025, at his
home in Corsicana, Texas, sitting in his recliner.
Born on August 23,1944, in Corsicana to Bill and
Vera Budai Murphy, Gowan grew up with a love of hard
work and wide-open spaces. He graduated from
Corsicana High School, attended Navarro College, and
went on to earn a master's degree in education from
Sam Houston State University. Throughout his life,
Gowan was known for his work ethic, love of the land
and devotion to family and community.
Gowan began his teaching career at Corsicana ISD,
where he taught science and shop for seven years. In
1971, he started his own dirt excavation business,
later worked in sales at the local Toyota dealership
for eight years. Eventually he returned to the
classroom in 1987 to teach special education at
Wortham ISD for another seven years. He also
delivered the Dallas Morning News across Navarro and
surrounding counties, mowed roadways, and took on
countless other jobs too numerous to list.
But of all his many talents and ventures, the role
that brought him the most joy was driving a school
bus. For 32 years, he safely carried generations of
students to and from school. Gosh he loved those
kids, and they loved him right back.
Gowan's impact on Corsicana ISD also extended to
advocacy - he played a key role in improving the
district's pay structure, lobbying for increases for
bus drivers, custodians, and teachers.
A true jack of all trades, Gowan could fix or build
anything he set his mind to. He drove dump trucks,
rode bulls, and farmed the land. He loved rodeos,
and each year looked forward to the Houston
Livestock Show and the Texas State Fair. He was the

Carolyn Jane
(Elliott) Pillans
Apr 7, 1947 - Sep 12, 2025
Carolyn
Jane Pillans peacefully entered the arms of Jesus on
Friday, September 12, 2025, after a courageous
battle with leukemia. She was born April 7, 1947, in
Corsicana, Texas, to Nathan Hampton Elliott and Dana
Rose Arnett Elliott.
Carolyn spent her childhood years in east Texas
where her father worked for United Gas Company for
many years. When she was 16, he passed away
unexpectedly so she, along with her mother and
sisters, moved back to Corsicana to be close to
family. She graduated from
Corsicana High School in 1965, and shortly
after, she attended classes at Navarro College. She
would often say that she took about every class they
had to offer at the time. She worked for
Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and then Liberty
Mutual Insurance. She met Gary Myrle Pillans before
he left for Vietnam. Gary was severely injured in
the war, but she remained strong until his return to
the States and throughout his recovery. They married
on August 13, 1971 and moved into the home that they
built. They raised three children there. As long as
she was able, she worked faithfully beside Gary at
their now 53 year old business, B & G Auto Parts.
She was known for her unwavering dedication to
organization and meticulous bookkeeping skills.
Carolyn was a member of First Baptist Church of
Corsicana, where for many years she could be found
in the family's usual spot on Sunday mornings and
evenings - four pews back in the right front section,
sitting with Gary and her kids. Her life was marked
by a steadfast love for the Lord and her family,
service, and creativity. She was gifted with
elaborate sewing skills and a keen eye for detail.
She was able to make just about anything, and she
loved to quilt when she found the time. As a devoted
mother, she poured her heart into everything she
did-- making clothes for her children, volunteering
at their schools, ensuring they were always at
church, and no matter what, she always had supper on
the table at 5:30. She and Gary also opened their
home to several foreign exchange students who became
their family, as well, throughout the years. Later,
she shared the same love and dedication to her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew her
as "Momo".
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan
Elliott and Dana (Elliott) Bonner; step-father,
Lowell Bonner; and daughter, Laurie Ann Pillans
Horn. Survivors include her husband, Gary Myrle
Pillans; daughter, Cindy Black and husband, Stanley;
son, Brian Pillans and wife, Danielle;
grandchildren, Holly, Brooke, Nathan, Drew, and
Riley Pair, Ryan and Hunter Pillans, Addie Burke,
Ashley Horn Cunningham, and Tommy Horn;
great-grandchildren, Keegan and Konner Dozier,
London Norris, Cadence, Caleb, and Corbin Bancroft,
and Brynlee, Easton, and Weston Horn; sisters,
Georgia Elliott and Tina Pilkinton; aunt, Joann
Tomlin; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins,
extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm Sunday, September 14,
2025, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral
service will be 10am Monday, September 15, 2025, at
First Baptist Church of Corsicana with Bro. Jeff
Fitzhugh officiating. Burial will follow at
St. Elmo
Cemetery in the Winkler-St. Elmo community with
graveside service officiated by Bro. Charles Grasty.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Pair, Drew Pair, Riley
Pair, Ryan Pillans, Hunter Pillans, Jesse Hodges,
Brian Jennings, and Adam Minze. Honorary pallbearers
are Steve Andrus, Mike Brashear, Kevin Eubanks, and
Robert Thurston.
The family would like to thank all who have prayed
incessantly for Carolyn and her family throughout
the past few years. Her legacy of love, service, and
devotion lives on in the lives of those that she
leaves behind. |

Elizabeth (Foster) Acker
Feb. 6, 1935 - Aug. 13, 2025
Colorado
Springs, CO - With heavy hearts and profound
gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce
the peaceful passing of Elizabeth ('Mims' to her
grandchildren) on August 13, 2025, at the age of 90.
She departed surrounded by the love of her children,
leaving behind a legacy of grace, wisdom, and
unconditional love that will forever illuminate our
lives.
Elizabeth was born to M.H. and Thelma Foster in
Anson, Texas on February 6, 1935. She was the eldest
child followed by her sister, Barbara Young of
Longview, TX, who survives.
She met the boy who would become the love of her
life, Jim Acker, when they were children in
elementary school. They married in 1954 and together
they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage filled
with laughter, adventure, and deep devotion. Three
children came from their union: Kimberlee, James
Baron and Mark Blaine. Jim passed away in 2022.
Throughout her remarkable 90 years, Elizabeth most
relished her role as mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and housewife, supporting Jim in
his business at Corsicana Laundry and Dry Cleaners.
She had a gift for cooking and entertaining and was
well-known among her friends for her delicious dry
martinis.
Grandson, Kyle Atchison, shared this remembrance:
"Our Mims left this world peacefully to be with our
Poppy. I honestly don't know which one of them are
more excited to see the other. They completely
adored each other. Just like Poppy, Mims accepted me
like her own grandson from the day I came into the
family. They taught us the meaning of love and the
power of the woman standing beside you."
"Mims was the greatest chef that never opened a
restaurant, the fiercest woman that protected her
family and friends, and the greatest soundboard that
never judged. She loved everyone and everything. She
cherished the outdoors and wildlife. She introduced
Tricia and I to the mountain life, which she loved
to the end. She was literally the coolest
grandmother that anyone could ask for. She would sip
on a Scotch with you and talk about life, family,
and traveling (and jump on Poppy for trying to talk
business during these conversations)."
The mountains were always dear to Elizabeth's heart,
and she relished her many getaways to her mountain
home in New Mexico, later in Colorado Springs. The
quiet surroundings, the cool Rocky Mountain air, the
glory of nature fed her soul. Her last days were
spent joyfully in her Colorado casita gazing upon
Pikes Peak and hand-feeding apples to the resident
deer.
A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held later
in the year in Corsicana. As an addition, her simple
pastime was marveling at God's handiwork in trees;
in lieu of flowers, you may make a living tribute to
Elizabeth by planting a tree in her name at https://alivingtribute.org
"A mother's love is something that no one can
explain - it is made of deep devotion and of
sacrifice and pain. It is endless and unselfish and
enduring, come what may, for nothing can destroy it
or take that love away."

mater.

Brenda Lee (Grounds) Stubbs
Apr 10, 1951 - Sep 6, 2025
Corsicana, Texas - Brenda Stubbs
Honoring the Love Brenda Lee Grounds Stubbs Gave
So Freely
A bright light has left this world to be with
Jesus, her Lord and Savior. Brenda Lee Grounds
Stubbs was born to Harry Lee and Florene Grounds on
April 10, 1951 in Corsicana, Texas. She joined the
heavenly hostesses on September 6, 2025 at the age
of 74 after a long battle with respiratory issues.
She was a loving force in her family and in her
community. Brenda showered everyone she met with
genuine curiosity and enveloped everyone she knew
with love.
Brenda was the heart of the family. Her warmth and
grace provided a comfortable place for each person
to feel seen, heard, and loved. She shared a
remarkable love with James Stubbs that included
long, winding road trips either during the fall
months each year or just day trips to wherever the
day took them. Brenda and James had one son, Jason
David, "JD." Brenda loved him fiercely and cherished
every single moment with him including her last on
this earth. To her sister, brothers, and their
family she showed unwavering love. Aunt Bembee, the
name her extended family affectionately called her,
touched each family member's life and made it
better. She is already deeply missed.
Beyond her family, Brenda made an enormous, positive
impact in her community. She was a bright face of
Community National Bank and Trust for over 30 years.
From serving popcorn on Fridays to her tireless acts
of love in the community, the most remembered piece
of Brenda was her smile. People who entered the bank
immediately felt welcome because Brenda had a way of
making everyone she met feel like they were the only
person in the world for just a few seconds in time.
While this tremendous loss to the family and the
community is deeply felt, Brenda is likely standing
at the gates of Heaven making it yet another place
where everyone feels like they belong. Her strong
faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior was
steady throughout her life. It was evident in the
way she treated others with love and kindness.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Harry
Lee Grounds and Florene Trompler Grounds along with
Gilbert and Katy Stubbs, Polly Chase, Benny and Mary
Stubbs.
Brenda is survived by her husband James of 57 years,
her son JD and his partner Statia, Diana (sister)
and Ken Goode, Harry Gene (brother) and Cheryl
Grounds, Donnie (brother) and Mandy Jane Grounds,
Terry (brother) Grounds and Tommie Batson, Gloria
(cousin) and Bill Hollingsworth, Carolyn and Mike
Anderson along with three generations of nieces and
nephews.
A celebration of how our sweet Brenda impacted those
around her will be at Northside Baptist Church,
where she and James have been members for many
years, on Thursday, September 11. Visitation will be
at 1:00 followed by a celebration of life at 2:00.
Daniel Harper will officiate.

Notes:
Joseph William "Bill"
Walraven
Jul 1, 1925 - Dec 12, 2013
Another
WWII PT boater has gone out on eternal patrol. J.W.
'Bill' Walraven passed away in Corpus Christi in the
presence of his family on December 12, 2013 at the
age of 88.
He was born in Dallas on July 1, 1925, to Orange Daniel and Valerie Garrison Walraven. His father
died four months later. He lived in Kingsville until he was eight, grew up in the Masonic Home in Fort
Worth, served on what he called 'the only PT boat in the Pacific not commanded by John F. Kennedy,' and
went on to graduate from Texas A&I University. There
he met Marjorie Kathryn Yeager, his beloved 'Ricky,'
who would become his bride, partner, and constant
companion for 63 years.
He worked at the Caller Times as a police reporter,
courthouse reporter, city hall reporter, business
writer, oil writer, and Action Line columnist before
'retiring,' as he said, to write a general column
appearing five days a week from 1974 to 1989. He
retired for good, but continued writing, authoring
several books on Texas and local history and
collections of humor.
He was 'Bean' to his family, and was a sweet man,
who loved his family and his dogs, Gin and Tonics,
bad puns, his adopted Corpus Christi, and his fond
memories of the Masonic Home, his Navy days, and
scouring the bays for flounder with his brothers. He
was an irreverent resister of authority who always
seemed to get what he wanted. He enjoyed his work
and could weave stories so effortlessly as to not be
work at all. He was funny and kept his sense of
humor to the end. His was truly a life well lived
and he will be missed.
His parents, his brothers, Ferrell, Jack, and O.D.,
and his elder son, Wilson, the 'Star Boarder,'
preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Ricky; his daughter,
Valerie and son-in-law, John Davis, of Dallas, and
grandchildren, John Davis, of Dallas, and Emily
Davis, of New York City; his son, Joe, of Austin;
and daughter Sandy Cline, and grandchildren Carly,
Sami, and Buddy Cline, all of Fort Worth.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to Dr.
Paul Heath, Dr. Christopher Brehm, and Dr. Baldimar
Covarrubias for the care and attention provided over
the last few years, and to the wonderful staff of
Angel Bright Hospice for the compassionate service
given in the final days.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, December
21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Methodist Church,
3151 Reid Drive. In lieu of flowers, contributions
may be made to St. Luke's, MD Anderson, or the
Humane Society. |

Marjorie Kathryn
Walraven
Nov 5, 1929 - Dec 11, 2023
Marjorie
Kathryn Walraven was many people. Marjorie was the
long-time journalism, history and English teacher at
Carroll High School, who also found time to sponsor
the newspaper and yearbook. Kathryn was the
daughter, sister and aunt who was also the
granddaughter of a Civil War veteran. Ricky, a name
she used in her own high school days with friends,
was the wife of former Caller-Times columnist Bill
Walraven, and the name used by their close friends
and by coworkers from her time as a copy editor at
the newspaper. Lady was the mother who provided
cover for her children to avoid calling her "Mrs.
Walraven" in the classroom, the teacher and mentor
her students came to know her as, and, finally, the
name her beloved grandchildren called her. All of
these people passed away on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023,
in Dallas at the age of 94.
She was born in San Antonio on Nov. 5, 1929, to
Abraham Hightower and Ruth Irene Yeager. She
graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville,
where she met the love of her life, Bill Walraven,
to whom she would be married for 63 years. Theirs
was a partnership that touched many lives. In
"retirement" they traveled and collaborated on
several books on Texas, humor and local history.
She was not just a teacher. She stayed close to her
students long after they graduated, becoming a
trusted friend and adviser with bonds that lasted a
lifetime. She was smart and funny, possessing an
innate goodness and Southern graciousness that drew
people to her. She was a good citizen who kept up
with current events and volunteered her time to the
League of Women Voters. She was also a lover of
dogs, especially her Australian shepherd, Roxy. But
she loved all dogs, and would always want to know
that the dogs, as well as their people, were OK.
To know her truly was to love her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband, Bill Walraven; son, Wilson Walraven;
son-in-law, John C. Davis; and sister, Marian Luke.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Valerie
Walraven of Dallas and grandchildren John W. Davis
of Dallas and Emily Davis of New York City; son Joe
Walraven and his wife, Sarah Kirkle, of Austin; and
daughter Sandy Guerra-Cline of Benbrook and
grandchildren Carly Guerra of El Paso, Sami Cline of
Benbrook and August Cline of Lewisville;
brother-in-law Jim Luke of Des Moines; nephew Chris
Luke and his wife, Laura, of Milford, Michigan; and
countless friends, former students and coworkers who
knew her.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the
Villages of Dallas for making her feel so at home
after she relocated from Corpus Christi. Thanks also
go to the staff of UT Southwestern, and especially
to Dr. Jessica Voit, for the outstanding care they
provided Lady, and to the staff of Faith
Presbyterian Hospice in Dallas for the compassionate
service given in her final days.
A service to celebrate Lady's life is planned for
10:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at St. Luke's
Methodist Church, 3151 Reid Dr., in Corpus Christi.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to
your local Humane Society or to the charity of your
choice. |

Callie Sue (McClure) Harris
Sep 18, 1934 - Sep 26, 2025
Callie Sue Harris, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away
peacefully on September 26, 2025, at the age of 91 in Waxahachie,
Texas. Born on September 18, 1934, in Blooming Grove, Texas, Callie's
life was a testament to the power of selflessness and devotion.
As a young woman, Callie graduated high school with a bright vision for
her future. She went on to work as a dedicated secretary at the
Citizens Development Center for over 30 years, where her warmth and
efficiency became the cornerstone of her professional life.
Callie embraced her Christian faith with fervor, living out its
principles through her actions and interactions with everyone she met.
Her life was a living sermon of the values she held dear—love,
kindness, and selflessness.
Her love for gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms that adorned
her home each season. Callie's hands, always ready to nurture and tend,
found as much joy in the soil as they did in the lives of those around
her. She was an avid volunteer, giving her time generously to causes
that touched her heart and uplifted the community.
Family was the centerpiece of Callie's world. She was a loving wife to
her late husband, Charles Harris, and a guiding light to her daughter,
Kathy Barron (Troy), and her daughter, Karla Wright (Ron). Her legacy
continued to blossom through her granddaughter, Tracy Gutierrez
(Rolando), her grandson, James Fischer (Beth), and her granddaughters
Nicole Jackson (Derrick) and Jessica Holt (Paxton).
Callie's joy multiplied with the birth of each great-grandchild:
Brianna Lanham, Lilli Dollar (Gatlin), Daylen Jackson, Caden Jackson,
Kayleigh Easley, Kinley Gutierrez, Jayde Holt, and Bella Fischer. The
family circle expanded with the arrival of her
great-great-granddaughter, Lila Dollar, who brought a new sparkle to
Callie's eyes.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles, her parents Joe and
Myrtle McClure, and her seven siblings, Callie's memory will continue
to be cherished and honored by her family and all who knew her.
Her daughters fondly recall the girls' trips that were filled with
laughter, stories, and the simple joy of being together. These moments,
now treasured memories, are a testament to Callie's love for adventure
and family bonding.
As her family and friends reflect on Callie's life, they remember a
woman who was the embodiment of love and selflessness. Her kind spirit
and nurturing presence will be deeply missed, but the impact she made
on the lives around her will continue to be felt for generations to
come.
Callie Sue Harris lived a full life, rich with the love of her family
and friends. Her legacy of kindness, her unwavering faith, and her
dedication to her loved ones will forever be etched in the hearts of
those she leaves behind.

together they built a beautiful life raising their three sons - Roy Glen,
James, and Roger.
Laverne took great pride in being a stay-at-home mom, devoting her life
to raising her children. She often said that her job was her children,
and when asked if raising them was hard, she would simply smile and
say, "It was easy." Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own
children, as she also lovingly raised her granddaughters Courtney
Scoggins and Candace Graham, who brought her immense joy and purpose.
She deeply loved her family and took heartfelt pride in each one of
them. Laverne cherished every opportunity to gather with loved
ones - whether in Texas, Arkansas, or Louisiana - and treasured special
moments at church, annual birthday breakfasts, casual get-togethers, or
evenings out with her dear lifelong friend, Jo Ann Stutts.
A devoted Christian, Laverne was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist
Church, where she served as the church secretary. Her faith was the
foundation of her life, and she never failed to recognize God’s
blessings, even in the toughest of times. She lived each day with
gratitude, passing down a legacy of love, integrity, and Christian
values that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and
loved her.
All of her favorite expressions of love will forever be felt and heard.
"I love you beyond all measure." "I love you more than you’ll ever
know." "I love you more than that."
Laverne is survived by her three sons: Roy Glen Scoggins of Corsicana,
TX; James Scoggins of North Little Rock, AR; and Roger Scoggins of
Corsicana, TX; and her daughters-in-love Michelle Ann Scoggins and
Cynthia Scoggins. Her cherished grandchildren include Jeff and Kori
Scoggins of Denison; Cody and Michelle Scoggins of Denison; Wesley
Scoggins of Sherwood, AR; Courtney Scoggins of Corsicana; Ashton and
Hunter Leppert of Dubberly, LA; Candace and Justin Graham of Corsicana;
and Jessica Scoggins of Corsicana. She also leaves behind her beloved
great-grandchildren: Bentlee Barham, Zayden and Zachary Dabney, Lane
and Colt Leppert, Isaac Scoggins, Travis and Willow Sue Scoggins.
Laverne is survived by her brother Thomas Hester and wife Dianna of
Corsicana; sisters-in-law Carol Hester of Fort Worth; Barbara Scoggins
of Corsicana; Rita Morton of Dresden; and Betty Morton of Dresden —each
of whom she lovingly considered her sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Scoggins; parents, Evan
("Pete") and Vera Hester; sister, Carolyn Hester; brother, James
Hester; and nephews Carl Hester and Randy Moreau.
Laverne’s life was a living testimony of faith, love, and devotion. Her
gentle spirit, warm heart, and steadfast faith will continue to inspire
all who were blessed to know her.
