OBITUARY
 Regina Louise (Mayes) Stephens
May 28, 1927 - June 29, 2026
Regina Louise
Mayes Stephens went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 29, 2026, in
Lewisville, Texas, at the age of 99. Born on May 28, 1927, in
Carrollton, Texas, she was the youngest of ten children born to Edgar
Pleasant Mayes and Louise Duwe Mayes.
Growing up on
the family farm, Regina learned the values of hard work and deep
kinship. She graduated from Carrollton High School and went on to earn
her degree from Texas State Teachers College (now the University of
North Texas). It was through her college roommate that she met the love
of her life, John Roscoe Stephens, a World War II veteran. The couple
married on June 20, 1953, and shared over 50 beautiful years together
until John's passing in 2005. They were blessed with three sons and
four grandsons.
Regina loved
her family dearly and remained remarkably close to her nine siblings,
as well as her many nieces and nephews, throughout her long life. Her
legendary memory and devotion were evident to everyone she loved; she
famously never missed a birthday, calling her extended family members
year after year to celebrate them and ask about their latest
accomplishments.
A long-time,
faithful member of Walnut Hill United Methodist Church, Regina
considered raising her sons and teaching children about faith to be her
highest callings. Over her lifetime, she taught Bible study and Sunday
school to countless children. She also served with joy as the president
of the Women’s Missionary Union and as a Circle Leader for many years.
Music was another great passion; Regina found immense fulfillment in
leading the Happy Singers, a musical group that traveled across the
Metroplex performing at churches and retirement homes, spreading light
wherever they went. All who knew Regina knew her to be exceptionally
kind, loving, and gracious to all.
Regina was
preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Stephens, and her nine
siblings: Count Mayes, Margie Cluck, Freda Wilcher, Merle Isom,
Christine Wallace, Ed Mayes, Ted Mayes, Cora Cerniak and Jack Mayes.
Her love and
legacy live on through her surviving family: her son, Jim Stephens, and
his wife, Lori; grandsons, John Riley Stephens, and James Stephens and
his wife, Meagan; her son, Paul Stephens, and his wife, Jan; grandson,
Michael Stephens, his wife, Cathleen, and great-grandchildren, Josiah,
Elizabeth, Tirzah, and Abraham; and grandson, Phillip Stephens, his
wife, Stephanie, and great-grandson, Bennett; son Dan Stephens and his
wife, Debra. She is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews,
lifelong friends, and dedicated caregivers.

Miss Regina Mayes Joins Mary Ardens
Miss Regina Mayes has recently been elected to membership in the Junior
Mary Arden club at North Texas State Teachers college, Denton, and was
innitated in the canlelight cer4emonies in the college auditorium. The
Mar4y Ardens are a literary club, one of the oldest on the campus with
membership based on scholarship.
Regina is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Mayes of Carrollton, a
major in business administration and the sixth member of her family to
attend NTSTC. She is the fourth of her family to be elected to
membership in the Mary Ardens.

MISS REGINA MAYES ELECTED TREASURER FOR SENIOR MARY ARDENS AT NTSC
DENTON, TX (Spl) - March 5, Miss Regina Mayes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
E. P. Mayes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Mayes, was recently elected
treasurer for Senior Mary Ardens, literature organization of North
Texas State College.
Miss Mayes is a senior student majoring in business administration. She is planning for her graduation this coming June.

MISS REGINA MAYES AT DALLAS LUNCHEON
Miss Regina Mayes was honored Saturday with a luncheon in the Cenury
Room, Hotel Adolphus by her sisters, Mrs. Morris Wallace, Mrs. D. B.
Isom and Mrs. H. T. Wilcher of Dallas.
Those attending the luncheon were Misses Edwina Whitlock, Carrollton;
Tiny Cashion, Carrollton; Mary Ruth Stephens, Dallas; Lounell Mayes,
Dallas; Surrell Walker, Groesbeck; Jean Kinzy, Fort Worth; Mrs. Wallace
and the honoree.
Regina is a June graduate of North Texas State College in Denton and is
leaving June 3 to visit her sisters, Mrs. T. C. Cluch in Mamaroneck,
N.Y. and Mrs. J. F. Czerniak, Detroit, Mich.
Parents are Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Mayes.

Miss Regina Mayes Complimented at Shower
Miss Regina
Mayes, who will marry John Roscoe Stephens June 20 in Carrollton First
Baptist Church, was complimented at 8 p.m. Monday with a pantry shower.
Miss Lounell
Mayes, niece of the future bride, was hostess to 45 guests with her
mother, Mrs. Count Mayes in their home, 4519 West Potomac, Dallas.
White
hurricane lamps decorated the lawn. A pink wrought iron yard table was
centered by a pink wicker cornucopia filled with pink daisies and white
stock to carry out the future bride's wedding shades.
On Tuesday
evening, May 26, Miss Mayes was honored with a kitchen shower.
Hostesses were Miss Bettie Holt and Miss Betty Sewell at Miss Sewell's
home, 5614 Anita, Dallas. The table on the lawn was covered with a red
cloth and was centered with an arrangement of white stock in a wicker
backet with white hurricane lamps. The 30 guests attending autographed
a rolling pin for the birde-to-be.
