Dear Peters Colony Historical Society Members and Friends,
Our
meeting on Monday, September 14, 2026 will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the
Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake, 1700 Keller Springs
Road, Carrollton, TX 75006 in the small Environmental meeting room at
the back of the library.
The Peters Colony Historical Society officers for the society year 2026-2027 are:
President – Richard Monroe, 1st Vice President – Ed Williams, 2nd Vice President – Brian Williams, Treasurer – Paul Price, Corresponding Secretary – Jan Jones.
Our
speaker this month is Ravi Shah, the Executive Director of Development
Services for the City of Carrollton. The title of his presentation is “Carrollton Historical Downtown – Past, Present and Future”.
Downtown Carrollton traces its roots to the 1840s Peters Colony
settlement, officially adopting the name “Carrollton” in 1878 with its
first post office. By the early 1900s, merchants shaped the Historic
Downtown Square, which became the community’s social and commercial
center after incorporation in 1913, highlighted by the 1921 gazebo that
hosted civic gatherings. Today, Downtown Carrollton is undergoing
thoughtful revitalization guided by the 2025 Master Plan. Ravi will
speak about that plan and about possible future plans that reinforce
Downtown’s role as a vibrant historic and economic hub.
