OBITUARY
Samual David Vaugh
February 24, 1926 - March 3, 2022
Samuel David Vaugh passed away in his sleep very early on the morning
of March 3, 2022. At the age of 96, his strength had been declining,
but he remained kindly engaged with those surrounding him until he left
to be with the Lord and his beloved wife of 65 years, Helen Baker
Vaugh. Throughout his life, David was the good shepherd; always caring
for others first and treating everyone fairly. Now he has moved on to
join his Savior in eternal peace. He will be dearly missed by his
family and friends.
Born February 24, 1926, in Dallas, Texas, David grew up a child of the
Great Depression as the eldest of three children of Samuel Eli and Emma
Arminta Crouch Vaugh, along with brother Marvin Boone and sister Emily
Ruth. With the unexpected passing of his father when David was only 12,
he began to support the family by milking cows every morning and
evening at a nearby dairy farm and taking on other jobs as he completed
high school. After graduation, David served with the U.S. Marine Corps
in the Pacific Theater of World War II and at Camp Pendleton,
California during the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Helen
Baker Vaugh, at the Mercantile Bank in downtown Dallas and they were
married on April 19, 1952. Soon thereafter, they made their home in
Richardson, Texas. David studied accounting at Southern Methodist
University, passed the qualifying exam on the first try, and became a
Certified Public Accountant in 1956. In 1959, David and Helen had their
only child, Samuel Kent Vaugh. After providing accounting services at
an auto dealership and the Dr. Pepper Company, David entered private
accounting practice in which he prepared personal and corporate tax
returns, performed city audits, and handled accounting matters for auto
dealership associations throughout a professional career spanning six
decades.
"Good and faithful servant" are the words that best describe the full
life of Samuel David Vaugh. He served his parents and younger siblings
during the Great Depression, his country in two wars, and his wife and
child through seven decades as a steady and loving example. Most
importantly to David, he served his Lord and Savior at Richardson East
Church of Christ, at Brookdale Northwest Hills in Austin, Texas where
he led Sunday worship services, and in each and every thought and
action during an exemplary 96-year life. "Enter thou into the joy of
thy Lord (Matthew 25:21)."
David is survived by his sister Ruth Vaugh Mitchell and her husband
Glynn, son Samuel Kent and his wife Beverly, granddaughter Hannah and
her husband Aaron, grandson Matthew and his wife Jessica, and
great-grandchildren Murphy David and Emerson Baker Vaugh.
A graveside memorial service celebrating David's life will be held at
11 AM on March 20, 2022, at Restland Memorial Park located at 13005
Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. |
