Cleo
Irene Turner Smirl went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, September
7, 2025, at the age of 92. Cleo was born on October 16, 1932, in
Maplesville, AL, to Horace and Lillian Turner.
Cleo's
family moved from Alabama to Texas when she was in 7th grade where
she was a 1951 graduate of Carrollton High School. She trusted Jesus as
her Lord and Savior at the age of 15, at Addison Baptist Church, and
married John there on January 16, 1954. She was a loving and caring
wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and mentor. She retired in
1997 from 28 years at St. Alcuin Montessori School of Dallas as a
substitute, teacher's aide, and library aide. In 1982 she and John
moved to the Prosper area and joined First Baptist Church Prosper. She
was a volunteer with Cornerstone from its beginning in Prosper in 2010.
Cleo enjoyed quilting, embroidering, and flower gardening. She was an
amazing hostess valuing time spent with her family and friends, always
centered around a meal at the table. She was always caring for others
in action, generosity, and lending an ear.
She
was preceded in death by her parents Horace and Lillian Turner;
brothers Alvin and Bobby Turner; husband John Smirl; and sons Craig and
Drew Smirl.
Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Dallas
