OBITUARY
 Charles Ronald Mitchell
Purvis, born November 2, 1970, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, passed away
at his Sylacauga, Alabama, residence on June 9, 2026, at the age of 55.
Known to many as Chuck, he lived with a steady pride in where he came
from and a deep appreciation for the people who walked beside him
through life.
Chuck devoted more
than 20 years of service to the Farmers Branch Police Department in
Texas, a career defined by commitment, courage, and a calm readiness to
step forward when others needed help. He served on the SWAT team and
later retired as a detective—roles that reflected both his strength and
his sharp, steady focus. Among the brotherhood of fellow officers, and
especially to his closest coworkers, he was also known as “Dan-O,” a
name spoken with familiarity and respect.
Away from the badge,
Chuck found joy in the things that brought people together—especially
football. He was a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and
University of Alabama football, and he especially loved talking college
football with his son-in-law, Blake, turning ordinary moments into
spirited conversations and lasting memories. He also cherished simple,
meaningful time on the road: truck rides with his beloved German
Shepherd companion, Ranger, for six years—quiet miles that said
everything about loyalty and companionship. His motorcycle club and the
enduring bond he shared with a brotherhood of fellow police officers
added to a life rich in connection and camaraderie.
Chuck’s legacy is
carried forward in the love he gave freely and the friendships he held
close. He leaves behind special close friends Gregory, Rory, Steve, and
Tapp, whose lives were made better by his presence and whose memories
will continue to honor him.
Chuck is survived by
his daughters, Shelbi Weaver (Blake), McKenzie Purvis, Savannah Purvis,
and Skyler Purvis; his granddaughter, Briar Weaver; his sister, Leona
Woodfin; his brother, Robert Purvis (Angie); his nieces, Maranda Kite
(Patrick) and Alisha Purvis; his nephews, Wayne Woodfin, Wesley Woodfin
(Cherlyn), and Robert Purvis, Jr.; his great nephews, Tanner Weathers
(Shelbi) and Conner Kite (Alica); and his great nieces and nephews,
Sharon Vandergriff, Grady Weathers, Lydia Kite, Brynleigh McCurley, and
Marcie Kite.
He was preceded in
death by his father, Charles Purvis; his mother, Nancy McDaniel; and
his beloved dog, Ranger.
Though his days were
far too few, Chuck’s life was full—marked by service, loyalty, and the
kind of presence that made others feel they belonged. He will be
remembered with gratitude, spoken of with warmth, and missed beyond
measure. |
